Those that entered the photography contest can find their art on display at Jetts Juice at 125 Main St Listowel. The professional photographer that was our judge noted that this year was particularly challenging to select the winners, and he really enjoyed the experience. Congrats to KB, GM, OD, RF, SJ, and SF for having their photographs selected as top 3.
ART We have been working on an art unit using different mediums such as pastels, charcoal, watercolours, pencil, acrylic paint, etc. For a final assignment, students had to create an "unlearn" poster about a social issue. It had to use two mediums and the goal was to make creative artistic choices with the medium techniques to represent ideas in the poster. Enjoy looking through. Is there a poster that makes you think something we need to unlearn?

What is roleplay? By MNRoleplay is when you play the role of somebody else. This is related to history, because we need to know what they did back then so that we more understand the concept OF roleplay. For a while our class has been learning about roleplay. We did some exercises, learned a little bit about it, and now are tying it into history. The goal is to learn about the mistakes the world made back in time, how history was made. Drama is just another way of explaining history. It makes a point while being interacting. (mind the puns.) Now why exactly do we need history? Well, to know what they did wrong so we don't make the same mistakes. Drama makes history more fun to learn because it helps you learn about History itself, and it also teaches you how to act and live through the eyes of whom you're playing. Now go, make your own history.
Dance - By MN This week, we had a full dance day. We got split up in groups and each group got themes to dance to. The hard part was, we couldn’t listen to the music until we were presenting the dance each group did! It was really funny when we all finally presented them, because the music was like… battle music! Afterwards, we used everybody’s dances and turned them into something awesome that went with the music. We also did a few exercises to relax so that we could listen to max and the wild things. Next week, we will be creating a version of “Where the Wild Things Are” that involves movement and dance. We have picked a song for the wild rumpus that we will be dancing a very dramatic dance to. We, as a class, are going to pick somebody to be max, and then the rest of us will be the wild things and the set. We will be focusing on this more next week. We will be recording it so that all the classes can see.
Art We are leading a unit on different mediums. It is attached.
Hope through Hatred Presentation - by O.F. Prelude: As some of you may know, We read a book in class called Hana’s Suitcase. I hope that the other students have told you about the book by now as it was an amazing book, but if you would like a summary or more about the book itself, read the article by H.K. I’m here to talk about what we are doing post-reading, and quite honestly, it’s just as exciting - if not more exciting - than the book itself. Over the past few weeks, we worked on something in drama that is intertwined with the book, we did a dance to represent the trials of Hana Brady during the holocaust. The dance was designed to show what Hana would be feeling while she has her friends taken from her, her freedom taken, her family, and even her life. It is a truly sad story but we felt that we should at least pay tribute to the many people who died during the holocaust. The dance, which can be viewed on the website followed the story of Hana, as she played with her friends in Czechoslovakia, having her village taken over by the nazis, having the lives of people around her taken, and finally, having her own life taken. I believe that the performance was very emotionally driven and we all did our best to show the emotions in the most effective way possible. After several weeks of planning and practice, we performed the dance at our own remembrance day assembly here at westfield, which was very exciting. Then, we went to the Legion and rehearsed there a few times. We performed for everyone at the legion, and then stayed for the band performance, and a few speeches and prayers. When we got back, I was very happy with what we had accomplished. Even though I am only one person out of the whole class, surveys that we did after the performance showed that almost everyone was very happy with the performance. All in all, I think that we showed respect to the people who fought in wars, both alive and dead, who fought for our freedom. Lest We Forget.
ART SQUARED In January and February, we worked on art using a variety of media. The culminating task was a piece for the "Art Squared" competition. Our work is now on display.
